The images in the paintings are captured from the iPhone app “Spy Cams.” I explore and enjoy the random live scenes from the app all over the world. Sometimes I wonder why CCTV camera angles and surveillance footage are so captivating, holding my gaze for quite some time.
A live CCTV camera in the gallery is set up to capture the exhibition in real time. I have painted the view as seen through this CCTV, recreating the scene from its unique perspective. The painting (“Image” series – 13 and 14) is then positioned directly in front of the gallery’s CCTV, so that it becomes part of the live feed shown on the monitor as an installation during the exhibition. In doing so, the work creates a layered interaction between reality, representation, and surveillance.
